Building Site Access Control & Safety Solutions

Building and construction sites are dynamic, high-risk environments—characterised by dust, uneven terrain, and the constant movement of pedestrians and heavy machinery. Effective access control is not a mere procedural requirement; it’s a vital safeguard for protecting people, equipment, and site integrity. Automated access systems play a crucial role in maintaining safety and compliance across these challenging conditions.

The Rotech Automation Team design systems that combine solutions to rise to the challenge, whatever the site and environment. Our pedestrian and vehicle access solutions are built to withstand Australia’s toughest conditions—seamlessly integrating with all access control and OH&S systems, readers, and devices to ensure site safety and compliance from start to finish.

Engineered for demanding construction environments, the F21 Full Height Turnstile excels in rugged terrain, airborne dust, and high-traffic conditions. Constructed from durable galvanised iron and available with an optional side gate, this Australian-made solution has become a trusted safety fixture on many of the country’s most recognised sites. Including major infrastructure projects such as the Sydney West Harbour Tunnel, Brisbane’s Cross River Rail, Western Sydney Airport, Melbourne’s Suburban Rail Loop, and Adelaide’s Torrens to Darlington upgrade.

  • Seamless integration with card readers, mounted on robust, weather-resistantreader posts or mounted brackets
  • Anti-corrosion treatment and sealed components to protect against the elements
  • Multiple setting to fit all security procedure protocols (eg. Free Exit on power failure…)
  • Pedestrian Side gate optionfor cumbersome bags or delivery
  • From 3m laneways to wide 12m delivery bays, our boom gates are engineered for high-reliability in dusty, vibration-heavy construction zones. With over 20 years of experience supplying the building and construction industry we know what boom gate will last the test of time, busy traffic and tough conditions:

WEST HARBOUR TUNNEL: RD6 Radar free exit and Safety for 6m Roger Boom Gate

  • Sealed electronics and corrosion-resistant enclosures for long service life in rugged terrain
  • High-duty cycle brushless motors that stand up to constant vehicle flow offering better speed control and less maintenance over time
  • Optional Safety equipment to match skirts, LED lighting, and traffic light strobes for improved visibility
  • Articulated Arms and compact cabinet for underground and confined space
  • Bollards and card reader posts for both truck and car height and integrated card readers box hosting multiple readers solution such as keypads and RFID cards or intercoms.
  • Unpredictable vehicle movement, reduced visibility, and challenging surfaces call for safety systems that perform in the real world of building and construction sites:

349x390mm Reader Box with Keypad, RFID card reader and Intercom

  • PE Beams Sealed IR beam pairs that halt gates if a person or object is detected. Wireless or semi wired, anti-shock/vandalism to fit any sites as wide as 40m
  • RD6 Radar Sensors – Motion detectors unaffected by dust, rain, or poor lighting detecting both vehicles and pedestrians will prevent the boom arm to descend of pedestrians, ideal for non-sealed roads or where PE Beam may be affected by light, dust or mist
  • Surface-mounted wireless Vehicle Loop Detectors for fast installation on sealed roads removing the need to cut the road and chase wire to the gate.
  • Loop Detectors – to control free exit of vehicles on sturdy road and speed up exit of all vehicles, a time and time again proven vehicles detector solution that will cope with heavy vehicle traffic and last the harshness of time around building sites.
  • Traffic Lights, Strobes & Sounders – Critical visual and audible alerts to cut through site noise and dust, alert pedestrians and vehicles alike. We can help you design the automation of all traffic lights sounder and Strobes and put together the control boards that will mostly be needed for complex configurations such as blind spots, one lane 2 ways, underground car park…

What types of access control solutions does Rotech Automation provide for building sites?

Rotech offers pedestrian access solutions like full-height turnstiles and gates, and vehicle access solutions such as industrial boom gates. These systems are designed to withstand harsh Australian construction environments and integrate seamlessly with OH&S and access control systems, readers and devices on site.

Why is access control important on construction sites?

Construction sites are high-risk environments with heavy machinery, uneven terrain, and constant movement. Effective access control ensures safety, compliance, and security, preventing unauthorized entry and reducing accidents.

What kinds of environments are your access control & safety solutions designed for?

Our systems are built specifically for high-risk, dynamic construction and building sites — where dust, uneven terrain, heavy pedestrian and vehicle traffic, and changing site conditions are the norm.

What vehicle access control solutions do you provide for building sites?

For vehicle access, we offer heavy-duty industrial boom gates for lane widths ranging from around 3m up to 12m delivery bays. These are designed for dusty, vibration-heavy construction zones with high traffic flow.

What pedestrian access control options do you provide for building sites?

We provide solutions such as the “F21 Full Height Turnstile and Pedestrian Gate”, engineered for rugged terrain, airborne dust, high traffic volumes and harsh conditions.  Our side gate option accommodates deliveries, bulky items, or personnel carrying equipment.

Can Rotech’s systems integrate with existing access control technologies?

Absolutely. All Rotech solutions are designed to integrate with card readers, biometric systems, intercoms, and other access control devices, ensuring flexibility for any site configuration.

What happens in case of power failure or an emergency?

The systems are configurable, for example “Free Exit on power failure” for turnstiles, to ensure safe exit during outages or emergencies.

How are Rotech’s solutions powered in remote areas?

We provide high-capacity solar kits with battery backups, often set up in portable bases. These systems can operate autonomously for 7 days or more, depending on demand and battery sizing.

How do you ensure the equipment performs in harsh outdoor/building-site conditions?

We use corrosion-resistant treatments, sealed electronics, rugged materials (such as galvanised iron for turnstiles), and high duty-cycle brushless motors for vehicle gates, to ensure durability and low maintenance under tough conditions.

What safety features are included to protect people and vehicles near the access points?

Safety features include: sealed IR beam pairs (PE Beams) to detect pedestrians/objects, radar sensors (e.g. RD6) that detect vehicles and people unaffected by dust or low light, vehicle loop detectors, traffic lights, strobes and sounders to provide visual and audible alerts.

Can you customise the solution for my specific site layout and traffic conditions?

Absolutely. We design tailored systems that combine different technologies based on the site’s conditions — for example, number of lanes, type of traffic (pedestrian vs vehicles), terrain, dust/visibility challenges — to ensure both access control and safety are optimised.

Are Rotech’s solutions suitable for large infrastructure projects?

Yes. Rotech’s systems have been deployed on major projects like Sydney West Harbour Tunnel, Brisbane Cross River Rail, Western Sydney Airport, and Melbourne Suburban Rail Loop, proving their reliability in demanding conditions.

    Do you provide installation support?

Whilst Rotech Automation does not provide installation, we can assist in coordinating with certified technicians nationwide to perform complete installations. Alternatively, we can support or guide your preferred electrician.

What warranty and on-going support do you provide?

We provide a 12-month parts-only warranty as standard. We also maintain spare parts stocked locally in Australia and offer telephone technical support. See our Product Warranty & Returns page for more details.
